Nike+ Human Race 2009 inspires hundreds of thousands of runners to lace up and run

TORONTO, Oct. 24 /CNW/ - Today, NIKE, Inc. hosted the second annual Nike+ Human Race 10K as hundreds of thousands of runners hit the road as part of the world's largest one-day running event. Nike hosted Nike+ Human Race events in 27 cities globally, from Vancouver to Toronto, Los Angeles to Seoul and from Tel Aviv to Rome. Thousands more runners joined the Nike+ Human Race by logging their own 10-kilometre runs on race day using their Nike+ Sport Kit or Nike+ Sportband.

In Canada, organized group 10K runs occurred in Running Rooms in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Pointe-Claire and Halifax. Elite Canadian athletes including 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Simon Whitfield, 800M World Silver Medalist,Gary Reed, Speed Skater Kristina Groves and 2009 World Silver Medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep were on hand at Running Room locations, cheering on and encouraging participants to the finish line.

Thousands of Canadians ran in the Nike+ Human Race 10K events across the country today.

The Nike+ Human Race debuted in 2008 with the purpose of celebrating runners and their sport while uniting athletes world-wide through the ultimate running experience. Many of the runners who participated in the race, also trained by using the tools provided at nikeplus.com, which has more than 2 million members worldwide. Members of this digital running club have logged more than 280 million kilometres.
